How to compress a PDF online

Choose a document, select how strongly you want it compressed, then download and compare the result.

3 simple steps
  1. Choose your PDF

Select one valid PDF up to 25 MB from your device.

  2. Select compression

Use light, balanced or high compression depending on your size and quality needs.

  3. Download and review

Compare the original and compressed sizes, then download and check the output.

Choose the right PDF compression level

Compression is a trade-off between file size and visual quality. Image-heavy PDFs often shrink more than text-only documents, while an already optimized PDF may change very little.

Light compression

Use when image clarity matters more than maximum size reduction. Good for reports, diagrams and documents you expect people to zoom into.

Balanced compression

A practical default for email attachments, general sharing and routine uploads where you want a smaller file without pushing compression too far.

High compression

Prioritizes a smaller output. Fine images and scanned text can become softer, so always review the downloaded PDF before relying on it.

Results vary

No fixed percentage reduction can be guaranteed. The result depends on images, fonts, existing optimization and the internal structure of the source PDF.

If a compressed result becomes larger or loses important detail, keep the original or retry with a lighter compression level.

Privacy and document handling

This version uses an external PDF compression API, so the selected PDF is uploaded to that service for processing. The frontend then downloads the returned compressed file so your browser can save it.

What leaves your device

The PDF file is sent to the configured API endpoint when you click Compress PDF. Review the provider’s retention, security and privacy terms before using the tool for confidential documents.

Website services

Advertising, analytics, consent tools and other site features may have separate data practices. Your privacy policy should accurately explain both the compression provider and the surrounding website services.

Questions about compressing PDF files

How much smaller will my PDF become?

There is no fixed reduction percentage. Image-heavy and poorly optimized PDFs can shrink substantially, while text-only or already optimized files may change only a little.

Which compression level should I choose?

Balanced is the general-purpose option. Choose Light when quality is the priority and High when reducing file size matters more than preserving fine image detail.

Is my PDF processed in my browser?

No. This version sends the selected PDF to the configured external compression API. The returned compressed PDF is then downloaded by your browser.

Will compression reduce PDF quality?

It can. Stronger compression may soften images or scans. The amount depends on the source PDF and the compression service, so review the output before sharing it.

Why did my PDF barely get smaller?

The file may already be optimized, contain mostly text and vector content, or use images that cannot be reduced much without a visible quality trade-off.

Can a compressed PDF become larger?

Yes, in some cases. If the service rewrites an already efficient document, the result can be similar in size or even larger. Keep the smaller version after comparing them.
